Men’s Golf: Hoos in fourth place after Day 1 at The Hayt Collegiate

The No. 13 Virginia men’s golf team shot 6-over 294 Saturday to open play at The Hayt Collegiate in fourth place. The 14-team event is taking place at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Alabama leads the field at 6-under 282.

All-American Ben James produced UVA’s best opening round score, shooting 1-under 71. He finished Saturday in eighth place. Chris Fosdick is in 15th place after posting a score of 1-over 73. Deven Patel is 25th at 74, Byran Lee is 41st at 76 and Paul Chang rounded out the UVA scoring with a 78 that put him in 54th place.

Grayson Wotnosky, competing as an individual, is in 25th place after shooting 74.
