Men’s squash: Virginia goes 3-0 in home weekend matches at McArthur

The No. 5 Virginia men’s squash team won its fifth-straight match with an 8-1 victory over No. 7 Drexel on Sunday afternoon at the McArthur Squash Center, after defeating No. 12 Rochester on Friday and No. 11 Chatham on Saturday.
JP Tew came back after dropping the first game to win 3-1 at the No. 4 position as Virginia (7-2, 3-0 MASC) clinched the match with its fifth win. Omar El Torkey and Taha Dinana cruised to 3-0 wins at the two and three positions, respectively. CJ Baldini and Myles McIntyre picked up 3-0 wins at six and seven and Charles Braff won his exhibition match 3-0.
Aly Hussein added a 3-0 win at the No. 1 position on the ladder to give the Cavaliers a 6-1 lead. Evan Hajek won 3-1 and Cullen Little closed out the match against the Dragons (5-3) with a 3-0 win at five.
Tyler Mackesy took a 2-0 lead at the nine, but eventually fell in a five-game match 3-2.

On Saturday, the Cavaliers earned seven 3-0 sweeps in their victory against Chatham (5-3). Hussein won 3-0 at the No. 1 and El Torkey won 3-0 at the No. 2 position. Dinana picked up a 3-1 win after dropping the third game at No. 3. Tew came back after falling behind 1-0 to win 3-1 at the No. 4 position. At No. 5, Little battled to a 3-2 win with a 12-10 final game.
Baldini won at No. 6, McIntyre picked up a win at No. 7, Mackesy finished with a win at eight and Braff won at the nine position.
Max Velazquez earned a 3-0 win in an exhibition match.

On Friday against Rochester (1-8), UVA took an early lead with the No. 1, No. 3, No. 7 and No. 6 positions winning in straight games to open the match. Hussein picked up the first win at the No. 1 position, defeating Rochester’s Abdelrhaman Lasheen, 3-0 (11-6, 11-3, 11-8).
Dinana cruised to an 11-4, 11-8, 11-6 win at the No. 3 position. McIntyre won 3-0 over Quinlan Jeudy at the seven spot and Baldini picked up an 11-9, 11-4, 11-8 win at the six.
The Cavaliers added to their lead to go ahead 5-0 with Teddy Durfee’s 3-0 victory at the No. 9 position. Shortly after that, El Torkey recorded a 3-0 win at the No. 2 position over Yash Fadte.
Hajek won 3-0 at the eight and Little rebounded after a loss in the first game to win 3-1 at the five position. Tew fell 3-1 at the four to Rochester’s Omar Zakaria. Andrew Barr won an exhibition match 3-1 over Nicholas Gill.
