The No. 3 Virginia men’s tennis team closed out its regular season with a 4-0 Commonwealth Clash victory over Virginia Tech on Thursday at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg.

The Cavaliers (20-3, 12-1 ACC) took the doubles point following a pair of 6-4 victories, first by junior Dylan Dietrich and freshman Andres Santamarta Roig on court two and then by No. 48 Måns Dahlberg and Jangjun Kim on one.

No. 17 Keegan Rice cruised past Patrik Jurina 6-1, 6-2 on court two to put Virginia up 2-0. Dietrich, who reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the ITA singles rankings this week, defeated No. 102 Ilyas Fahim 6-2, 6-4 on the top court to expand the lead to 3-0. No. 49 Santamarta Roig clinched the Virginia victory with his 6-0, 6-4 win on three.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

  • No. 1 Dylan Dietrich has now won his last nine completed matches and did not record a loss in ACC play.
  • Virginia holds a 64-9 record in the all-time series against Virginia Tech (6-15, 3-10).
  • With the victory, the Cavaliers are at least ACC regular season co-champions.
  • Seedings for next week’s ACC Championships will be announced Sunday evening following the conclusion of the final match of the day (see weekend schedule, standings below).

SMITHFIELD COMMONWEALTH CLASH

  • The match is part of the Smithfield Commonwealth Clash, with one point going to Virginia as the winner of the contest.
  • The Smithfield Commonwealth Clash, originally called the Commonwealth Challenge (2005-2007), has been a part of the UVA-Virginia Tech rivalry since 2014. It is an all-sports, points-based program with the Commonwealth Clash trophy presented to the winning school each year for its dominance in head-to-head competitions.
  • The Cavaliers now lead the Hokies 11-4 in 2025-26.

The Cavaliers compete in the ACC Championships held in Cary, N.C., next week. UVA earned the No. 2 seed and will begin play in the quarterfinal round at 12:30 p.m. on Friday (see full bracket below).
