Meyer breaks UVA 800-meter record to highlight Virginia Grand Prix

uva track and fieldVirginia graduate student Michaela Meyer broke her own school record in the 800-meters to highlight the Virginia Grand Prix meet at Lannigan Field. Meyer ran a time of 2:01.82 that set a facility record in addition to bettering her school mark. That ranks as the eighth best time in the nation this season.

UVA had several other competitors win events.

The Cavaliers took the top four spots in the women’s long jump. Khyasia Caldwell won the with a leap of 6.23 meter (20’ 5.25”) while Jada Seaman was second at 5.99 meters (19’ 8”), Zoe Rice was third with a personal best leap of 5.97 meters (19’ 7”) and Mia Abulencia was fourth (5.85m / 19’ 2.5”).

Andrenette Knight clocked a personal-best time of 13.37 to win the 100-meter hurdles.

Rebecca Hawkins finished first in the women’s high jump by equaling her personal best with a clearance of 1.73 (5’ 8”).

In the shot put, freshman Maria Deaviz took first place with a put of 16.89 meters (55’ 5”).

Freshmen Seaman and Kayla Bonnick swept the 100-meter dash. Seaman ran a personal best time of 11.44 while Bonnick finished with a time of 11.62.
