No. 1 seed Virginia to host High Point in NCAA Tournament opener Friday

The Virginia women’s soccer team (16-2-2) is a No. 1 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament and will host High Point (10-7-2) in a first-round matchup at Klöckner Stadium at 6 p.m. on Friday the NCAA announced with the release of the tournament bracket on Monday.

High Point claimed the Big South Tournament title this past weekend with a win over Campbell, giving the Panthers the conference title for the first time since 2017. High Point went 8-2 in Big South play this season, scoring 44 goals on the season while allowing only 26.

Virginia will compete in the NCAA Tournament for the 28th consecutive season and is hosting at Klöckner for the 23rd time in the last 28 seasons. Overall, the Cavaliers are making the program’s 34th NCAA Tournament appearance – the second most by a program. The 28 consecutive appearances is the second-longest active streak.

The Cavaliers enter the NCAA Tournament having won the ACC regular-season title for the third time in program history and advanced to the finals at the ACC Championship for the eighth time in program history. Virginia also tied a program record with seven players named to All-ACC teams, including Offensive Player of the Year Diana Ordoñez. Steve Swanson was also named the ACC Coach of the Year.

TICKET INFORMATION

Tickets for NCAA Tournament matches at Klöckner Stadium can be purchased online at VirginiaSports.com or by calling the Virginia Ticket Office at 1-800-542-8821. Reserved seats are $10 in advance and $10 at the gate on game day if any remain available. General admission tickets purchased in advance are $5 and $10 at the gate on game day. Students are required to purchase tickets at a cost of $5 in advance or at the gate. Children under two years of age are admitted free.

Reserved season ticket holders will have until noon on Wednesday (Nov. 10) to purchase their seats from the regular season.

PARKING INFORMATION

Due to men’s basketball hosting Radford at JPJ at 7 p.m. Friday evening, free parking for the women’s soccer match will be available at the Emmet/Ivy Parking Garage. With coinciding events in the area, fans should plan accordingly for navigating game day traffic.
