No. 10 Virginia logs its third straight shutout

The No. 10 Virginia field hockey team picked up its third-straight shutout victory with a 2-0 win against Miami (Ohio) on Friday at Turf Field in Charlottesville.
Freshman forward Taryn Tkachuk scored the game-winning goal and assisted on Virginia’s second goal. Freshman goalkeeper Tyler Kennedy picked up the victory and the shutout in her first collegiate start.
Virginia improved to 4-1 on the season while Miami fell to 1-5.
Taryn Tkachuk got the Cavaliers on the board midway through the second period, converting a penalty stroke with 7:24 remaining in the first half. In the third quarter, she sent a pass soaring through the air across the goal line to the opposite post where senior striker Peyton Tollaksen stuck the ball into the net to make it 2-0 in the final 45 seconds of the period.
Freshman goalkeeper Tyler Kennedy played the entire game in goal, making two saves.
