No. 8 Virginia falls 20-11 at No. 10 Boston College

No. 8 Virginia (5-1, 2-1 ACC) dropped its first game of the season with a 20-11 loss at No. 10 Boston College (4-1, 1-1 ACC) on Saturday afternoon at the Newton Campus Lacrosse & Soccer Field.
Lillie Kloak (Ridgewood, N.J.) led UVA with three goals. Morgan Schwab (Fairport, N.Y.) had two goals on two shots and six players added a goal.
Virginia trailed in shots (34-24) and draw controls (22-10). The Cavaliers had 12 saves to 10 for BC. UVA had six caused turnovers and committed eight turnovers to 13 for the Eagles. Charlotte North led BC with seven goals and had two assists.
After three goals for Boston College to start the game, Maggie Bostain (Richmond, Va.) put UVA on the board at the 18:13 mark in the first half. BC scored but Taylor Regan (Larchmont, N.Y.) tip toed in front of the goal to make it 4-2, BC. The Eagles scored two more to go up 6-2 with 10:24 to go in the first half. UVA cut it to 6-5 with a 3-0 run over 1:49. Kloak ran past her defender for a goal and added a free position goal to bookend the run. Mackenzie Hoeg (Mattituck, N.Y.) found Ashlyn McGovern (Phoenix, Md.) in the run. BC scored back-to-back goals then Schwab scored for UVA to keep it a two-goal deficit, 8-6. Boston College closed the half on a 3-0 run to lead 11-6.
The teams traded goals to open the second half, with Schwab scoring her second of the afternoon for UVA. BC extended its lead with a 4-0 run. Hoeg scored to stop the run. Aubrey Williams (Purcellville, Va.) forced a turnover by the BC goalie and picked it up for the goal. UVA scored the last two goals of the game with free positions from Olivia Schildmeyer (Upper Arlington, Ohio) and Kloak.
