Virginia’s Griff O’Ferrall and Jay Woolfolk were selected to the 31-man Collegiate National Team roster after the completion of 2023 Collegiate National Team Training Camp, a four-game intrasquad series played at the National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.

The Cavaliers are one of six schools nationally with multiple selections to this year’s team. It also marks the third time UVA has had multiple players selected to the CNT (2006, 2021 & 2023). Virginia has been represented on each of the last six collegiate national teams, including the summer of 2018 where Brian O’Connor served as pitching coach. A total of 15 Cavaliers have played for Team USA, 13 of them since O’Connor’s first year at Virginia in 2004.

In the four games playing for the Stars, O’Ferrall went 5 for 14 (.357) with a double, two runs scored and an RBI at the plate. Woolfolk appeared in three of the four games and did not surrender a run in three innings of work on the mound. He struck out five batters and contributed an inning of the Stars’ combined shutout against the Stripes on Wednesday.

Team USA will engage in a pair of five-game series with Chinese Taipei and Japan from June 30-July 12. Games will take place at the National Training Complex, the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, Atrium Health Ballpark in Kannapolis, and Segra Stadium in Fayetteville. The National Training Complex will host the opening three games of the 44th USA vs. Japan Collegiate All-Star Championship Series July 7-9, while games four and five of the series will be played at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Ballpark in Charleston, South Carolina, on July 11 and 12.
