Virginia finished 10th at the NCAA Rowing Championship Sunday at Cooper River Park in Pennsauken, N.J. The 10th-place finish marked UVA’s fifth consecutive top-10 finish at the NCAA Championship.

UVA’s Varsity Four rowed to a fifth-place finish, while the Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Eight finished 10th and 11th, respectively.

“This was the fastest NCAA championship field ever,” Virginia head coach Kevin Sauer said. “We were racing for a higher team finish than 10th but did not achieve our goal, even though every boat fought hard. We are very young, losing only three rowers and two coxswains from this NCAA squad. The future is bright but will take a commitment to training well over the summer.”

Stanford won the Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight grand finals to earn the NCAA team title with 129 points. Washington (120) placed second followed by Princeton (118), Texas (110) and Yale (110). Pennsylvania (92), Brown (91), California (89), SMU (85) and Virginia (80) rounded out the top-10.

The Cavaliers’ Varsity Four placed fifth in the grand final behind Texas (7:03.174), Yale (7:06.900), Brown (7:11.870) and Stanford (7:16.566) with a time of 7:16.566. Princeton (7:22.050) finished sixth.

UVA’s Second Varsity Eight placed fourth in the petite final behind Brown (6:36.063), Ohio State (6:37.277) and Pennsylvania (6:37.563) with a time of 6:41.867. SMU (6:41.911) placed fifth, while Michigan (6:45.733) was sixth.
