Virginia sophomore Amanda Sambach has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s women’s golfer of the month for September. She opened the season by winning one of the top fall tournaments, capturing medalist honors at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate. Sambach had previously been named as one of 25 players to the watch list for the ANNIKA Award presented to the nation’s top female collegiate golfer.
Sambach (Pinehurst, N.C.) won the ANNIKA by shooting 9-under 207, the best tournament score of her career and the third best in UVA history. Sambach shot 7-under 65 in the opening round of the event to tie the Cavalier single-round scoring record.
In UVA’s other tournament during September, Sambach placed seventh at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate. She posted a score of 6-under 207 at that event. She finished the month shooting under par in five of six rounds. Sambach’s performance helped the Cavaliers to a pair of third-place finishes during the month. UVA is currently ranked No. 11 in the Golfweek standings and Sambach figures No. 14 in the individual poll.
Virginia will wrap up its fall schedule Oct. 21-23 when the Cavaliers travel west to compete in the Stanford Intercollegiate.
Congratulations to Amanda Sambach of @UVAWomensGolf for being named ACC Golfer of the Month! ⛳️
