The Virginia softball team (8-16) went on the road and fell in a non-conference matchup at No. 19 Virginia Tech (16-4) by a score of 7-0 on Wednesday (March 24).

Freshman Mikayla Houge (2-5) suffered the loss, allowing three runs on five hits in 4.0 innings of work. Houge (Collins, Iowa) did not walk or strike out a batter in the outing. She was the first of four pitchers used on the day by Virginia.

Keely Rochard picked up the win, working the complete game and allowing one hit with two walks and nine strikeouts.

After the game started as a pitcher’s duel, Virginia Tech would go on to plate runs in each inning from the third through the sixth. The Hokies got single runs in the third and the fifth, but pushed home two runs in the fourth and three runs in the sixth.

Despite getting runners on in the second, third and seventh innings, the Cavaliers were unable to push one across the plate as Virginia Tech took the victory.
