Spaanstra named ACC Co-Offensive Player Of The Week

Senior forward Alexa Spaanstra of the Virginia women’s soccer team has been named ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week by the league office it was announced on Tuesday with the release of the weekly award winners.
Spaanstra earned the weekly honor after helping the Cavaliers to a 2-1 win over No. 17 Notre Dame on Sunday in a top-20 matchup. With the win, Virginia remained one of two teams to be unbeaten in ACC play this season and knocked the Irish from the ranks of the undefeated.
In the win, Spaanstra scored the opening goal of the match in the 82nd minute and then added an assist on what proved to be the game-winning goal just 37 seconds later when she connected with Haley Hopkins to put the Cavaliers up 2-1.
Virginia returns to action at home on Thursday night when the Cavaliers host Louisville in a 7 p.m. contest.
