Swimming & Diving: UVA claims three more titles in Greensboro Friday

Virginia swimming & diving swept the 100-yard breaststroke and added a relay win on the fourth night at the 2023 ACC Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Virginia’s women continue to lead the standings with 1128 points heading into the final night of competition. NC State (942) is second and Louisville (822.5) third. UVA’s men moved up to fourth (659) behind NC State (1163) in first, Louisville (727.5) in second and Virginia Tech (688) in third.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior Alex Walsh won her second individual ACC title of the meet with her win in the 100-yard breaststroke victory. It was Walsh’s first championship in the event as she took the win in 57.64.
- Junior Noah Nichols completed UVA’s sweep of the event with an ACC and Meet Record time of 50.25 to win the men’s ACC Championship. It is the first individual ACC title for Nichols and the first of the meet for the men.
- The women’s relay team of sophomore Gretchen Walsh, A. Walsh, senior Kate Douglass and freshman Aimee Canny, respectively, added an NCAA and US Open record with their win in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:21.80.
- Virginia also had three runner-up finishes and three third place finishes on the night.
- Sophomore Reilly Tiltmann finished second in the women’s 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.20. Junior Matt Brownstead was second in the men’s 100-yard backstroke with a personal-best time of 45.35 (ranks second all-time at UVA).
- Junior Abby Harter started the night with bronze in the 200-yard butterfly (1:54.31) and senior Josh Fong podiumed in the same event with his time of 1:42.45 to place third.
- Freshman Emma Weber made it two Hoos on the podium in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke, finishing third with the fifth-fastest time in school history (58.61).
- The final race of the night saw UVA’s men’s 400-yard medley relay finish second and set a UVA record with the time of 3:03.29. Sophomore Jack Aikins, Nichols, sophomore Tim Connery and Brownstead, respectively, swam the relay for the Cavaliers.

WOMEN’S NOTES
- Freshman Carly Novelline just missed the 100-yard backstroke podium, finishing fourth with a time of 51.89 to rank ninth all-time at UVA.
- Junior Anna Keating and freshman Zoe Skirboll finished 12th and 13th, respectively in the 100-yard breaststroke.
- Sophomore Lizzy Kaye led the Cavalier divers on the platform, finishing 11th with a 226.45.
MEN’S NOTES
- Freshman Sebastien Sergile finished second in the C final to place 18th overall with a time of 1:44.88 and sophomore Colin Bitz was 22nd in 1:45.97.
- Senior Max Edwards finished fifth in the men’s 100-yard backstroke with the fourth-fastest time in school history in 45.83. Sophomore Jack Aikins battled to finish runner-up in the consolation final (10th overall) and the third-fastest time in UVA history with his 45.68. Junior Will Cole finished 16th in 46.78.
- Senior August Lamb and sophomore Daniel Worth made the consolation final of the 100-yard breaststroke. Lamb finished 13th and swam the seventh-fastest time in UVA history in prelims (52.91) and Worth was 16th but recorded the sixth-fastest time in UVA history in prelims with a 52.81.
