Tony Bennett offers 4-star big man Sorber from Pennsylvania; Carr commits to Tennessee
By Jerry Ratcliffe
Tony Bennett has offered Philadelphia big man Thomas Sorber out of the recruiting class of 2024, the same day as 2023 prospect Cameron Carr committed to Tennessee.
Sorber is a 6-foot-9, 250-pound center from Philadelphia’s Archbishop Ryan. The 4-star is rated as the nation’s No. 64 overall prospect by 247Sports composite and the No. 8 center in the country, as well as the No. 3 overall player in Pennsylvania.
UVA is also involved with 7-foot, 230-pound center Braden Pierce from the recruiting class of 2024 (more on him below).
Sorber announced his Virginia offer on his Twitter account Tuesday night.
He holds at least 15 offers, including UVA, Syracuse, Maryland, Georgetown, Virginia Tech, Pitt, Providence, Penn State, Richmond, St. Joe’s and Mississippi State.
Scouts report that Sorber has good hands and lots of agility for his size.

Meanwhile, Carr, a 6-5 shooting guard from Link Prep (Mo.), announced Tuesday that he had chosen Tennessee over Virginia, Kansas State and Northwestern. He was the last UVA offer for the class of ‘23.
Pierce is a 4-star, now playing at IMG Academy’s post-grad team after playing in Georgia last year. The 7-footer can step out and play the stretch-five spot as well as play in the paint.
He recently told Stockrisers that he’s heavily involved with Virginia, Missouri, Pitt, Cincinnati and Utah.
“I think Virginia would be a great fit for me,” Pierce told Stockrisers. “With one of the best coaching staffs in the country, I would get a great chance to continue developing, and academically it’s hard to beat as well.
“I’ve only been talking to an assistant for the last few weeks and haven’t talked to Coach Bennett yet, but I look forward to building my relationship with them throughout the season.”
