uva track and fieldThe Virginia track and field program will host a virtual gathering for running enthusiasts, its alumni and supporters of the Cavalier program at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday, March 9 for the start of Track’Ville Talks: Outside the Oval.

The one-hour, virtual program will feature segments on current members of the UVA team, the Charlottesville running community and a historical aspect of the Cavaliers’ program.

“We held some virtual events this summer with the goal of connecting our current team with its past,” said Vin Lananna, UVA’s director of track and field and cross country. “They were quite good. Virginia has some amazing history in the sport and we wanted to share that with our student-athletes.

“At the same time, we saw an opportunity to grow this out because Charlottesville has an active running community. There are a lot of terrific things happening here and we want to use Track’Ville Talks as a monthly platform for anyone with an interest in the sport to gather together.”

Tuesday’s inaugural episode will include the four UVA student-athletes set to participate in the 2021 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, live from the meet’s site in Fayetteville, Ark.

UVA All-American steeplechaser Stephanie Garcia will host members of Virginia’s women’s relay team that set a world record during its performance at the Raleigh Relays in 1987.

Mark Lorenzoni, a pillar in the Charlottesville running community and owner of Ragged Mountain Running and Walking Shop, will talk with participants in the ProlyFyck Run Crew – a group that gathers three times a week to run through historically Black neighborhoods in Charlottesville with a goal of uniting the community and diversifying running locally.

Track’Ville Talks will be held on Zoom and is open to the public. To participate simply register at this link: wahoowa.net/TrackVille1
