UVA hoops makes final 6 for combo guard Morillo
By Jerry Ratcliffe
Virginia has made the cut list for versatile 4-star guard Lucas Morillo of Boston, who has narrowed his choices to six schools.
The 6-foot-7 combo guard will choose between Illinois, UCLA, Virginia, Marquette, Texas and Minnesota. There is no timetable for an announcement, but Morillo has started to take visits.
Ironically, he is originally from New Rochelle, N.Y., same as former Virginia star Ty Jerome, and is similar in size and guard capabilities, although he isn’t as solid from the 3-point line as Jerome.
Rated the No. 32 overall player in the nation for the recruiting class of 2026 by Rivals, he is ranked No. 62 in 247Sports’ composite industry rankings, the No. 9 shooting guard in the class and the top prospect in Massachusetts.
Morillo’s stock has shot up during the summer, considering that in pre-spring/summer ball, he wasn’t even nationally ranked by the services. He is described as a player who can run the offense, is a skilled passer, a good decision maker with a good feel for the game.
He led his summer-league EYBL team in scoring, rebounds and assists. In two recent weekend games, Morillo averaged 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4.5 assists.
