UVA set to send 36 Competitors to NCAA Preliminaries in Jacksonville

uva track and fieldThe Virginia men’s and women’s track & field teams will have a total of 36 competitors entered in 32 events at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships. The four-day meet takes place in Jacksonville, Fla., May 26-29 at North Florida.

The Cavalier men will have 17 competitors in a total of 13 individual events. Their competitions will take place Wednesday, May 26 and Friday, May 28. Virginia’s highest-seeded competitors are: Claudio Romero (1st, discus), Brenton Foster (3rd, high jump), Owayne Owens (4th, triple jump), Derek Johnson (6th, 3000m steeplechase) and Jacob Lemmon (6th, discus).

The UVA women’s squad has 19 individual competitors and two relays teams entered in 17 different events. Their competitions take place on Thursday, May 27 and Saturday, May 29. The top-seeded Cavaliers are: Andrenette Knight (1st, 400m hurdles), Jada Seaman (5th, long jump), Michaela Meyer (6th, 800 meters), Mariz Deaviz (10th, shot put) and Khyasia Caldwell (10th, triple jump).

The qualifiers out of the two regional sites will compete in the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore.
