Junior midfielder Lia Godfrey and senior goalkeeper Cayla White were tabbed for weekly honors by the ACC, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday. Godfrey was named ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week, while White was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
The Cavalier duo was selected after their performances that helped lift No. 2 Virginia to a 1-0 victory at No. 4 Duke over the weekend.
Godfrey hit the game-winning goal, delivering a one-touch redirect off a Haley Hopkins pass to put the Cavaliers on the board. Her game-winning goal was the second of the season and fourth of her career. Godfrey also delivered the game-winning goal at then No. 2 North Carolina earlier this season and three of her four game winners have come against top-10 opponents.
White was named the national Player of the Week by the United Soccer Coaches on Wednesday, her first from the organization.
White posted the clean sheet in the win over the Blue Devils, making six saves to help deliver the win for Virginia. The six saves is one off her career high as White posted her sixth shutout of the season and eighth of her career. She improved to 8-1-1 on the season and is now 14-1-1 for her career in goal.
Virginia returns to action on Thursday when the Cavaliers host No. 3 Florida State in an 8 p.m. contest at Klöckner Stadium.
