Virginia baseball reveals 2023 schedule as O’Connor enters 20th season with Hoos

Embarking on his 20th season at the helm, head coach Brian O’Connor and the Virginia baseball program unveiled the 2023 schedule on Tuesday. The Cavaliers will begin their 135th year of baseball on the road in Wilmington in a four-team tournament hosted by UNCW.

The season-opening tournament, which begins on Friday, Feb. 17, includes Ohio, Navy and UNCW. Game dates and matchups will be announced by the host Seahawks at a later date.

Virginia’s home opener will be against Longwood on Tuesday, Feb. 21 and starts off a nine-game homestand that includes non-conference weekend series against Columbia (Feb. 24-26) and Rhode Island (March 3-5).

Atlantic Coast Conference play will commence on the road against North Carolina with a three-game match-up beginning Friday, March 10. The Cavaliers will also play road ACC series against NC State (March 17-19), Virginia Tech (March 31-April 2), Notre Dame (April 21-23) and conclude the regular season in Atlanta against Georgia Tech (May 18-20).

The Cavaliers will host Florida State (March 24-26), Miami (April 6-8), Pitt (April 14-16), Duke (April 28-30) and Louisville (May 12-14) in ACC action at Disharoon Park.

The Atlantic Coast Conference baseball tournament, featuring the top 12 regular-season finishers, will return to the Durham Bulls Athletic Park for the first time since the 2019 season. The tournament will be played May 23-28.

STORYLINES

  • Virginia will have a season-long, 11-game homestand beginning April 25 that includes weekend series with Duke and Louisville. In-state foes Liberty, VCU, JMU and Radford are also slated to visit Disharoon Park during that stretch.
  • UVA will play its annual game against VCU at the Diamond in Richmond on Tuesday, April 18. Apart from the shortened 2020 season, the two schools have played every year at The Diamond since 2011.
  • Virginia will renew its series with Columbia that was last played in 1926. The Cavaliers were 6-1 in the seven previous games against Columbia and first squared off against one another in 1894.

2023 Baseball New Season Tickets
New season tickets for the 2023 season are on sale beginning Tuesday, Oct. 18. General admission seats are $75 each and reserved seats are available starting at $125 per season ticket. Season tickets may be purchased online at UVATix.com or by calling the Virginia Athletic Ticket Office at (434) 924-8821. Season tickets can be paid in full or spread out equally over a four-month interest free bill plan.

UVA full-time faculty and staff are eligible to receive a discount of 20 percent on up to four season tickets by calling the ticket office. Season tickets in the baseline grandstand, infield grandstand and field level club require a per seat donation to the Virginia Athletics Foundation.

2023 Baseball Season Ticket Renewals
Current baseball season ticket members may renew their 2022 seats beginning Tuesday, Oct. 18 online at UVATix.com or by calling the Virginia Athletic Ticket Office at (434) 924-8821. Season ticket members may elect to pay in full or take advantage of four-month interest free bill plan as well as sign up for automatic renewal. The deadline to renew is Wednesday, Nov. 30. Season ticket members interested in adding or upgrading their seats in the general admission, right field grandstand, or baseline grandstand area may do so during the renewal period by calling the ticket office. For field club and infield grandstand seats, season ticket members may submit a request and will be contacted in Virginia Athletic Foundation priority point order following the renewal deadline.
