uva footballVirginia has picked up its seventh commitment to the football class of 2022 from a Texas defensive tackle.

Anthony “AJ” Holmes Jr., a 6-foot-2, 275-pound lineman from Spring Westfield High School in the Houston, Texas, suburbs, announced his commitment to the Cavaliers on his Twitter account Monday afternoon, after visiting UVA over the weekend.

The 3-star prospect chose Virginia over a host of offers: Houston, Colorado, Indiana, Memphis, SMU, Washington State, Southern Miss, Marshall, Duke and Tulane. He was recruited by UVA defensive line coach Clint Sintim.

Holmes was a 2020 Texas District 14-6A Co-Defensive MVP as a junior, and put up some impressive statistics along the way: 60 tackles, 22 tackles for loss, eight sacks, 28 quarterback hurries and six forced fumbles.

He is a strong, physical lineman that can take on double teams in addition to having good foot movement.
