Virginia and Maryland announced Tuesday that the 2023 football game between the two schools in College Park, Md., will be moved to Friday, Sept. 15. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 16. The kickoff time and television broadcast designation will be announced later this spring.
The date change will give UVA back-to-back Friday contests during the upcoming season. A week after traveling to Maryland, the Cavaliers will host NC State on Friday, Sept. 22 at Scott Stadium.
This year’s contest versus Maryland marks the 79th meeting between the two programs. It is the first game between the Cavaliers and Terrapins since the 2013 season, a 27-26 victory by Maryland at SESU Stadium.
Virginia will open its 2023 season on Saturday, Sept. 2 against Tennessee in Nashville at Nissan Stadium. UVA’s home opener comes a week later on Saturday, Sept. 9 against James Madison at Scott Stadium. Game times for the first three weeks of the season will be announced by the ACC in the future.
