Virginia Offense Will Face Its Toughest Challenge Of The Season Yet

Robert Anae’s offense will face its toughest challenge so far this season on Saturday when they take on N.C. State in Raleigh.

Anae, whose offense has been impressive the past two games, realizes touchdowns won’t come as easy against the Wolfpack, ranked ninth in the nation in scoring defense. State has allowed only four touchdowns in three games this season, and is giving up only 13.3 points per game.

While Coach Dave Doren’s unbeaten Wolfpack is ranked No. 85 nationally in passing yards allowed (238.0 per game), No. 22 in rush defense (108.0), No. 46 in total defense (346.0). Scoring is another matter.

“The scoreboard is the story there,” Anae said after Tuesday’s practice. “[State] plays well together, and they play all the way through the end. It’s tough to score points on this group. They’re well coached, they’re sound. They may not be flashy, but it’s still early in the season for both teams .. we are still breaking in our units.”

Anae said in his scouting of the Wolfpack offense he has not detected any glaring weakness, and said as far as he’s seen, State’s defense does everything well.
