Virginia qualifies three divers at NCAA Zone A Championship

All three of Virginia’s women’s divers qualified for the 2021 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships with their performances at the NCAA Zone A Championship in Greensboro, N.C.

“It’s a great feeling leaving this meet having all of our women qualified for NCAA’s,” head diving coach Drew Livingston said. “This can be a really stressful meet and I thought our divers did a great job handling the adversity and putting in some great performances. Jocelyn Porter deserves special recognition for her overall performance this week. It’s pretty cool seeing her level at this meet two years ago compared to where she is at now. Jen and Charlotte put themselves in a tough position after the first day and It took a gritty competition from both of them on Friday to make the meet, but they delivered when they needed to most. It’s taken a lot of sacrifices to get to this point in the year and I’m so happy for them to join our 14 swimmers in our hunt for a national title next week.”

Jocelyn Porter (Cornelius, N.C.) started the meet by finishing second on the 1-meter board with a score of 525.95 to advance in the event. Porter followed that up by taking the top spot on the 3-meter (619.75) on Friday and finishing third on the platform (455.15) to advance in all three events.

Jennifer Bell (Pelham, N.Y.) was third on the 3-meter (585.20) and Charlotte Bowen (Dana Point, Calif.) was sixth (561.70) as both secured spots at the NCAA Championships with their finishes.

Virginia’s three divers will join its 14 women’s swimmers at the 2021 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships held March 17-20 in Greensboro, N.C., at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
