Virginia returns to Peach State to land solid DB Franklin
By Jerry Ratcliffe
Virginia continued to pick up steam in the fertile recruiting ground of Georgia this week, when the Cavaliers picked up a solid commitment from Marietta defensive back Cedric Franklin.
The third commitment to UVA’s 2024 recruiting class, Franklin is a 6-foot-2, 180-pound safety from Kell High School. The 3-star joins cornerback Jaylin Lockey and defensive end Chase Morrison from the Peach State on the Cavaliers’ future roster. He is the eighth commitment for the ‘24 class.
Franklin, ranked the No. 108 safety in the country and the No. 134 overall recruit in the state of Georgia by 247Sports composite ratings, stacked up 39 tackles, forced two fumbles, blocked two punts and broke up seven passes last season at Kell.
The safety had offers from 30 programs and chose UVA over some solid competitors: West Virginia, Boston College, BYU, Missouri, Appalachian State, JMU, Coastal Carolina, Liberty, Memphis, ECU, Indiana, ODU and USF.
