Virginia, UNCW play to 1-1 draw

Sophomore Leo Afonso scored the equalizer in the 69th minute as Virginia men’s soccer (3-6-2) played UNCW (7-3-1) to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday afternoon at Klöckner Stadium.

UNCW scored in the seventh minute to take the early 1-0 lead.

The Cavaliers had nine shots, three on goal, in the first half.

UVA had seven shots and five corner kicks in a 10-mintue span in the second half.

Virginia tied it up in the 69th minute when Afonso stole the ball in the midfield and found sophomore Kaya Ignacio running alongside. Ignacio played the ball forward for Afonso who had one touch and ripped a shot off his right foot in the upper left of the goal.

Goalie Holden Brown came up with a big save on a UNCW breakaway in the 103rd minute.
