Was Perkins Taunted? You Be The Judge
By Jerry Ratcliffe
It’s obvious that Virginia Tech’s football team won’t receive a warm welcome when it enters Virginia’s Scott Stadium on Friday afternoon in a battle for the Commonwealth Cup and the ACC Coastal Division championship.
One Hokie player in particular, Dax Hollifield, may be in for a rough day from the Cavalier crowd.
The Tech linebacker told Richmond Times-Dispatch writer Mike Barber on Monday that he had to shut down his Twitter account over an incident in last year’s overtime Hokie win over UVA in Blacksburg’s Lane Stadium.
“They (Virginia fans) don’t like me,” Hollifield told Barber, who covers both teams.
There’s a reason for Wahoo fans’ disdain over Hollifield, and he’ll likely hear it come Friday.
When Virginia quarterback Bryce Perkins injured his ankle on a play and came up limping, it appeared that Hollifield was taunting Perkins and celebrating the Cavalier player’s plight. However, Hollifield told Barber that wasn’t the case, that he was “just telling [Perkins] to get off the field after a third-down stop.”
Here’s the video of the play. You be the judge:
