Virginia women’s basketball head coach Tina Thompson announced the addition of guard Mir McLean (Baltimore, Md.) to the Cavaliers’ roster. McLean has transferred to the University of Virginia from the University of Connecticut.
“We are so excited about the addition of Mir McLean!” Thompson said. “Mir brings high energy and excitement to our group. She is tenuous and hardworking. She is the kind of player that other top-tier players want to play with. We are very much looking forward to her impact.”
McClean, a 2020 McDonald’s High School All-American, was ranked as the No. 25 overall recruit in her class. She was named the 2020 Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year, 2020 Jordan Brand Classic All-American and 2019 USA Today All-Maryland First Team.
McClean played her freshman season with the Huskies as the squad advanced to the Final Four and appeared in three games for UConn this season before transferring to Virginia.
McLean has been granted a waiver by the NCAA and is immediately eligible to play. She will be in uniform for tonight’s game against Virginia Tech.
