Women’s Lacrosse: IWLCA names three Hoos All-Americans

The Virginia women’s lacrosse team had three players selected to the 2023 IWLCA All-America Teams, the organization announced on Thursday.
Sophomore Rachel Clark and graduate student Ashlyn McGovern were both second team selections, while junior Mackenzie Hoeg was named to the third team.
McGovern closed out her UVA career with 204 career goals, ranking third all-time in UVA history. She was second on the team with 61 goals, finishing just behind Clark. She is third in the ACC with 3.47 goals per game and fifth in total goals. McGovern scored multiple goals in 16 of the 18 games and had hat tricks in 13 of those games. She scored at least one goal in all but one game during the 2023 season.
Clark led Virginia in goals and points for the second consecutive season. The attacker finished with 63 goals and 13 assists to total 76 points. Her 63 goals are the most at UVA by a second year and tied for eighth all-time in a single season with McGovern’s 63 from 2022. Clark is second in the ACC in goals per game (3.53) and fourth in total goals. She scored multiple goals in 15 games with 13 hat tricks. Clark also led the Cavaliers with five game-winning goals during the season.
Hoeg was a steady presence for UVA in the midfield. She led the team and was third in the NCAA with a .635 shot percentage. Hoeg was third on the team with 40 goals. She led the team with 27 ground balls and was second in draw controls (54) and caused turnovers (13). Hoeg had 10 hat tricks this season and was second on the team with two game-winning goals. She scored a career-high five goals to lead UVA in the win at Pitt and grabbed five ground balls and eight draw controls.
