The Virginia women’s basketball team returns home to host UNCW on Sunday at 2 p.m. at John Paul Jones Arena.

  • Virginia (9-0, 1-0 ACC) is one of 21 undefeated teams remaining in NCAA I women’s basketball
  • The Cavaliers are 9-0 for the first time since the 1991-92 season when the team started 13-0
  • Virginia’s last nine-game win streak was in 2008-09 (Dec. 4- Jan. 11). Its last 10-game win streak was in 1999-00 (Dec. 20- Jan. 20)
  • Virginia closed out the ACC-Big Ten Challenge by picking up its first win in the series since 2012, topping Penn State, 89-68
  • The 21-point victory at Penn State was the Cavaliers’ sixth time this season they won a game by 20 or more points
  • UVA jumped out to an early lead, outscoring PSU 22-7 in the first quarter. It was the eighth time this season UVA outscored its opponent by double figures in a quarter
  • The Cavaliers are seventh in the NCAA in rebounding margin at plus-14.1. Virginia has outrebounded their opponent in every game except against Wake Forest

  • Mir McLean had her fourth double-double in five games (third straight) at Penn State. Her four double-doubles rank 12th in the nation
  • McLean scored a career-high 24 points against the Lady Lions, the second 20-point game of her career. She had a career-high 15 rebounds two games earlier against Minnesota
  • In the last three games, McLean is averaging 15.3 points and 14.0 rebounds per game
  • McLean has raised her rebounding average to 9.5 per game, ranking fourth in the ACC
  • Virginia is second in the ACC in assists per game (17.1). UVA had a season-high 24 assists (on 33 field goals) at Penn State and is averaging 20.6 per game in the last three games

SCOUTING UNCW

  • UNCW (2-4, 0-0 CAA) is coming off a 79-61 win on Thursday morning against Winthrop. Carrie Gross scored a career-high 22 points in the victory. The Seahawks shot a season-best 56.1 percent, including going 7 of 14 from 3-point range
  • UNCW went 3-26 last season and was 0-18 in the Colonial Athletic Association and has been predicted to finish 12th this season
  • Gross leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.5 points per game. Mary McMillan is averaging 12.2 and Jayde Gamble contributes 11.2
  • Micah Hoggatt is the team’s leading rebounder at 5.5 per game
  • This is the first meeting between the two teams

ON THE HORIZON

Virginia plays at William & Mary on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the final game before exam break. The Cavaliers will then return to action on Sunday, Dec. 18, hosting Morgan State at 2 p.m. at John Paul Jones Arena.
