Women’s notebook: Hoos travel to William & Mary for last game before break

The Virginia women’s basketball team plays at William & Mary on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Kaplan Arena in Williamsburg.

  • The Cavaliers (10-0, 1-0 ACC) are receiving votes in the AP Poll for the second-straight week and in the USA Today Coaches Poll for the first time this season
  • Virginia is No. 25 in the first NET rankings of the season
  • Virginia is one of 15 undefeated teams remaining in NCAA I women’s basketball
  • Virginia is the only school with undefeated men’s and women’s teams
  • The Cavaliers are 10-0 for the first time since the 1991-92 season when the team started 13-0
  • Virginia’s last 10-game win streak was in 1999-00 (Dec. 20- Jan. 20). Its last 11-game win streak came in 1994-95 when the team won 13 in a row (Jan. 17-Mar. 3)
  • This will be the Cavaliers’ second-straight game against a CAA opponent after topping UNCW 78-36 on Sunday
  • UVA grabbed 50 rebounds against the Seahawks, scoring 18 points off 18 offensive rebounds
  • Virginia ranks seventh in the NCAA and leads the ACC with 47.4 rebounds per game. They are eighth in the nation in rebounding margin plus-13.5 and 12th in offensive rebounds per game (16.9), the latter stat also leads the ACC
  • UVA is averaging 15.9 second-chance points per game
  • The Cavaliers had 15 steals against UNCW, their sixth-straight game with double-digit steals. The team is averaging 10.2 per game, ranking fourth in the ACC
  • UVA had 23 assists (for 31 field goals) on Sunday, its fourth 20-assist game of the season. The Cavaliers are averaging 17.7 per game, ranking second in the ACC and 25th in the nation, with a 1.22 team assist-to-turnover ratio
  • McKenna Dale scored 22 points in the win against UNCW, the sixth 20-point game of her career but her first at Virginia. Dale went 4 of 9 from 3-point range. After starting the season 0 of 15 from three, she is 9 of 18 from beyond the arc in the last four games
  • Freshman guard Cady Pauley had her first career double-digit scoring game with 11 points against UNCW in 15 minutes on the court
  • With Pauley’s performance against UNCW, all 11 members of the team have scored in double figures in at least one game this season. Dale is the fourth different Cavalier to post a 20-point game this season and the sixth different Cavalier to lead the team in scoring in a game
  • Mir McLean is averaging 9.4 rebounds per game, ranking fifth in the ACC and 44th in the nation
  • McLean has posted a double-double in four of the last six games. She has led the team in rebounding in each of the last four games and five of the last six

SCOUTING WILLIAM & MARY

  • William & Mary is 4-3 this season with two of those victories coming in overtime, including Sunday’s 84-81 home win against Coppin State
  • Erin Dickerson Davis is in her first season as William & Mary’s head coach. This is the fourth showdown between first-year head coaches for UVA’s Amaka Agugua-Hamilton
  • The Tribe only lost one player from last year’s roster, Kate Sramac, who is now a graduate assistant coach for the squad
  • The Tribe was picked seventh in the preseason CAA poll
  • Riley Casey leads the team, averaging 20.7 points per game
  • Virginia is 11-0 all-time against the Tribe, including a 60-44 victory last season in Charlottesville

This will be the Cavaliers’ final game before taking a 10-day exam break. They will return to action on Sunday, Dec. 18, hosting Morgan State at 2 p.m. at John Paul Jones Arena.
