Women’s Soccer: ACC tabs Virginia’s Galvin as Defensive Player of the Week

Tatum Galvin was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week by the league office, it was announced on Tuesday with the release of the weekly honors for the first week of play.

Galvin helped the Cavaliers to a pair of victories over Towson and Northwestern, helping anchor a back line that posted a pair of shutouts. Galvin logged 80 minutes in the opener, helping hold the Tigers to three shots in the game with only one shot on goal.

She then played 78 minutes in the shutout of Northwestern, helping limit the Wildcats to two shots on goal for the contest. Galvin also played the outlet that led to the opening goal in transition against Northwestern on Sunday afternoon.

It’s the first ACC weekly honor for Galvin in her career.

Galvin and the Cavaliers return to action on Thursday, when Virginia travels to face No. 4 Penn State in a 5:30 p.m. contest streamed on B1G+.
