The Virginia women’s tennis team has at least one player ranked in the Top 10 of each of the three categories of the ITA Preseason Rankings, as announced Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Sophomore Emma Navarro, the 2021 NCAA Singles Champion, tops the preseason singles rankings. This is her second time being ranked No. 1 after spending one week at that same pinnacle last season. Junior Natasha Subhash is ranked No. 8 in singles, making UVA the only team with two players ranked in the top-10. Subhash and fellow 2021 NCAA Doubles All-American Sofia Munera are ranked No. 4 in the preseason doubles rankings. Freshman Melodie Collard is ranked No. 3 on the ITA Top-10 Newcomers list.
Preseason team rankings will be announced in January.
Subhash and Munera will be competing together in doubles at the ITA All-American Championships October 4-10 in Charleston, S.C. Subhash has also earned a berth in the singles championship while Collard will play in qualifying to try to earn a spot in the main draw.
Since 1983, the ITA Women’s All-American Championships have featured the nation’s top NCAA Division I players and have been a pioneer in women’s college tennis. The event has created milestones that over the years have directly influenced the popularity of women’s collegiate tennis.
