Virginia gains commitments from Monmouth QB and big OT from Saginaw Valley via transfer portal

Virginia’s football team picked up commitments from a pair of transfer-portal players on Sunday, quarterback Tony Muskett, a former All-CAA player from Monmouth, and Daijon Parker, an offensive tackle from Saginaw Valley State.

Muskett, a three-year starter at Monmouth, starred at West Springfield High School in Northern Virginia. For Monmouth, he passed for 5,687 yards and 52 touchdowns during his career with the Hawks. The 6-foot-2 QB has two years of eligibility remaining.

He chose Virginia over offers from Missouri, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, Arkansas State, Miami (Ohio), Bowling Green, Troy and Ball State.

Muskett completed 462 of 718 passes during his career at Monmouth and missed the last three games of the 2022 season due to a knee injury in a seven-overtime loss to Rhode Island.

He will compete against Jay Woolfolk, who was deemed UVA’s future quarterback by Coach Tony Elliott during this past season. Woolfolk, who is also a pitcher on UVA’s baseball team, saw little action this season behind starter Brennan Armstrong, who has entered the transfer portal as a graduate.

Meanwhile, Parker, a 6-foot-6, 300-pound offensive tackle from Division II Saginaw Valley, will transfer to UVA as a graduate.

Parker visited Virginia this weekend and chose the Cavaliers over 20 other offers, most prominently from Washington State, Colorado State, Tulane, UMass, Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Miami (Ohio) and Old Dominion.

Parker, a late bloomer by his own estimation, also visited Toledo. UVA went to visit him this week and offered him, and he committed after coming to Charlottesville to take a closer look.
