According to sources, Virginia offensive line coach Terry Heffernan is expected to accept a position as Stanford’s new offensive coordinator.

Heffernan came to UVA from Stanford after he served as Coach David Shaw’s offensive line coach in 2021 and 2022. At Virginia, Heffernan has worked tirelessly to build the Cavaliers offensive line, which was one of the best in the ACC if not the entire nation this past season when UVA led the league in rushing and the line protected quarterback Chandler Morris.

Heffernan came to Virginia as the offensive line coach in 2023 and in 2024 added offensive run game coordinator to his title.

Prior to coaching at Stanford, Heffernan worked two seasons for the NFL’s Buffalo Bills, helping them to the AFC Championship game in 2020. He also worked for the Detroit Lions (2013-15).

Heffernan had 14 years of college coaching experior before coming to Virginia, having worked at Eastern Kentucky and Wayne State, Louisville and Michigan.
