Bliss officially signed with UVA last week after reclassifying to the current class, and will be a member of the Cavaliers’ team this fall. He is a 6-foot-4, skilled guard who averaged 20 points, 5 assists and 5 rebounds last season at George School in Newton, Pa.

He chose Virginia over Miami, Villanova, St. John’s, Xavier and Penn State, among others.

Bliss was a main recruiting target for Tony Bennett, who got a little help from former Cavaliers point guard Ty Jerome of the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers. Jerome sat down with Bliss and explained all the benefits he gained by playing for Bennett at UVA.

“We are excited and fortunate to add Christian to our basketball program,” Bennett said after Bliss signed. “Christian is a talented and competitive guard who plays with great feel. His redshirt season will allow him to focus on his strength and conditioning with coach (Mike) Curtis as well as his overall skill development. Christian comes from an outstanding family who values a degree from the University of Virginia.”

Bliss will be allowed to practice with Virginia as a redshirt so that he can become accustomed to his teammates and the system for his future career as a Wahoo.
