Former Virginia forward Anthony Gill has agreed to a two-year contract with the NBA’s Washington Wizards, according to NBC Sports Washington.

Gill, who transferred to UVA from South Carolina, played last season for the Wizards and is considered a valuable member of the team. Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington wrote Thursday: “Gill is one of the most popular players in the locker room and a favorite of the coaching staff.”

That comes as no surprise to UVA fans that had a love affair with the light-hearted Gill, who was always joking around with teammates, coaches and media.

The 29-year-old played in 44 games with the Wizards, averaging 4.1 points and 1.9 rebounds. He also shot 57 percent from the field and 54 percent from the 3-point line (14 of 26). Re-signing Gill gives Washington quality depth at his forward position along with Rui Hachimura and Kyle Kuzma.

Gill, who concluded his three-year Virginia career ranked first in field-goal percentage (58.2 percent), played in the EuroLeague after finishing up at UVA prior to Washington luring him to the NBA.
