Gill puts up career high as former Wahoos light up the NBA

By Jerry Ratcliffe

anthony gillFormer Virginia basketball star Anthony Gill (2013-16) became the latest ex-Wahoo to post an NBA career high in points on Monday night in the Washington Wizards loss to the San Antonio Spurs.

Coming off the bench, Gill put up 13 points midway through the second quarter. He didn’t score again in the game, but the 13 was Gill’s career high with the Wizards. He was averaging 1.3 points per game coming into Monday’s contest.

With that performance, seven former UVA players have scored career highs in the NBA so far this season: Malcolm Brogdon (36 points); De’Andre Hunter (33); Joe Harris (30); Ty Jerome (23); Kyle Guy (17); Gill (13); and Mamadi Diakite (10).

Jerome hit the 20-point mark for the second time this season (he joined the Oklahoma City Thunder late in the season due to an injury) on Monday night when he scored a team-high 22 in a 121-90 loss to the 76ers.

Jerome was 4 of 8 from the 3-point arc, made all four of his shots inside the arc, plus both free throws attempted. With the 22 points against the Sixers, Jerome raised his season scoring average to 10.3 points per game.

Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said of the former Virginia point guard: “Jerome is a workhorse in the gym.”
