The Virginia women’s soccer team picked up its tenth win of the year Thursday night, as Steve Swanson’s Wahoos escaped with a 1-0 win at Louisville. Third-year forward Meghan McCool scored her third goal in the last two games in the opening minutes.

Sophomore goalkeeper Laurel Ivory came away with a huge diving save with three minutes left until halftime, while Phoebe McClernon and the Cavalier defense clamped down and kept the Cardinals off the scoreboard for the remainder of the contest.

The eighth-ranked ‘Hoos (10-2-0, 3-2-0 ACC) will play at Notre Dame Sunday, the last road game of the regular season.

The men’s soccer team rallied for a 2-1 win over previously unbeaten Wright St. Tuesday, and will host No. 23 Duke tonight at 7. The ‘Hoos welcome in No. 5 Denver — another undefeated team — Monday at 6 p.m.

The Cavaliers’ Sept. 14 home game against Notre Dame (that was postponed due to the hurricane) has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m., while the start time for the Oct. 20 meeting with top-ranked Wake Forest at Klöckner has been changed from 7 p.m. to 1 p.m.

FIELD HOCKEY

The Cavaliers (4-6, 1-3) visit No. 4 Duke tonight at 6, marking the third straight game for Michele Madison’s bunch against a top-10 opponent.

Virginia lost 3-0 at top-ranked North Carolina and fell 2-0 Sunday to eighth-ranked Louisville, but the Cavaliers are still ranked No. 18 in the country.

Freshman Grace Wallis continues to lead the team in nearly all scoring categories, while goalkeeper Carrera Lucas leads the ACC with 48 saves.

The ‘Hoos will host Miami-Ohio Sunday at 1 p.m.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

The UVa men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams begin the 2018-19 season Saturday at the Aquatics and Fitness Center against Penn State. The Cavalier women are the defending ACC champs and finished in the top 10 nationally a year ago, while the men finished third in the ACC.

The diving portion of the meet gets underway at 9 a.m., with the swimming events are scheduled to begin around noon.

TENNIS

Four members of the Virginia men’s tennis team will be competing this weekend at the Spider Invitational in Richmond. William Woodall and Ammar Alhaqbani will team up for doubles competition, as will the duo of Jerome Romualdez and Spencer Bozsik. All four players will also compete in singles play.

Members of the women’s team will be playing at Old Dominion’s Commonwealth Invitational this weekend in Norfolk. The singles and doubles event, which runs through Sunday, welcomes participants from Virginia, Virginia Tech, ODU and William & Mary.

VOLLEYBALL

The UVa volleyball team (4-10, 0-4) will be wrapping up its current homestand with matches against Boston College (12-4, 2-2) Friday at 7 p.m. and Syracuse (8-4, 4-0) Sunday at 1 p.m.

SOFTBALL

The Cavaliers will also be traveling to the 757 for a couple of scrimmages in Norfolk Saturday. UVa takes on Norfolk State at noon and Roanoke College at 2 p.m. The team will then wrap up fall competition with four more scrimmages in October.

BASEBALL

The Virginia baseball team will hit the highway for another fall scrimmage as well Saturday, as the Cavaliers play at East Carolina before returning to host the Ontario Blue Jays Monday at 1 p.m. at Disharoon Park. Starting next week, the seven-game Orange and Blue intrasquad World Series runs from Thursday, Oct. 11 to Sunday, Oct. 28. All games are free to the public.

LACROSSE

Coach Lars Tiffany and the UVa men’s lacrosse team will face Penn State Sunday at noon for the fourth annual Bob Kemp Lacrosse Classic at Georgetown Preparatory School in North Bethesda, Md.

The Cavalier women kicked off their fall-ball schedule against Richmond Wednesday, and this year’s team will go up against the UVa alumni team next Friday before scrimmages with High Point and Elon Saturday.
