Virginia will face Coastal Carolina of the Sun Belt Conference in the opening round of the NCAA Baseball Tournament this weekend in Greenville, N.C.

The Cavaliers, 38-17, were sent on the road by the NCAA selection committee, for the second straight year. Last season, UVA won its regional and super regional to advance to the College World Series in Omaha.

East Carolina, an eighth-seed in this year’s 64-team field, is hosting the regional and will take on Coppin State.

Coastal Carolina, 36-18-1 overall, went 6-6 vs. top-30 ranked teams this season. The Chanticleers went 21-18-1 in the Sun Belt, 22-7-1 at home, 14-10 on the road and 0-1 in neutral site play.

Competition in the regional begins Friday.

The Greenville regional is matched up against the Austin, Texas bracket in tournament play. In Austin, Texas is the top seed and will face Air Force, while Dallas Baptist meets Louisiana Tech in the other double-elimination game.

Check the site this afternoon for reaction from UVA coach Brian O’Connor and selected Cavalier players.
