Virginia head coach Julie Myers announced Wednesday the addition of Megan Gordon to the women’s lacrosse team.
Gordon (Wantagh, N.Y.) graduated in May with a B.A. in communication studies from Northwestern and is enrolling at Virginia as a graduate student where she will have one year of eligibility remaining.
“Megan had a great high school career where she was an All-American,” Myers said. “She worked the midfield in high school and early in college before moving to defense. She will help anchor the D and will be a great fast-break transition player for us. We are super excited to have her for her graduate year!”
In her four seasons with the Wildcats, Gordon appeared in 51 games. As a freshman, she ranked second among the team’s rookies with 26 ground balls. In her sophomore season, she set a career-high with seven ground balls against Syracuse. She was named to the Academic All-Big Ten team in 2019.
During her prep career at Wantagh High School, she led her team to the 2015 Nassau County Class B championship and 2017 Nassau County Class C Championship, earning All-American, All-Metro First Team, All-Long Island First Team and All-County honors. She was named one of the Top 100 Players to Watch by Newsday, scoring 78 career goals and dishing out 63 career assists. She earned four letters in lacrosse, five letters in cross country and four letters in track and field
Gordon will join eight first-years in Rachel Clark (Devon, Pa.), Maureen Duffy (East Quogue, N.Y.), Shannon Garvey (West Chester, Pa.), Abby Jansen (Newtown Square, Pa.), Morgan Koenke (South Riding, Va.), Abby Manalang (Los Angeles, Calif.), Payton Meister (Coppell, Texas) and Kate Miller (Mechanicsville, Va.) in the incoming recruit class for the 2022 team.
