The No. 11 Virginia men’s soccer team competed in a thrilling ACC semifinal as captains Andreas Ueland and Leo Afonso each tallied goals, but it wasn’t enough advance past No. 3 Syracuse, as the teams battled to a 2-2 draw with the Orange advancing on penalties Wednesday night.

In addition to being named ACC Defensive Player of the Year, Andreas Ueland was selected to the All-ACC first team along with his co-captain and striker, Leo Afonso. Virginia goalkeeper Holden Brown was selected to the third team, and left wingback Reese Miller earned All-Freshman honors.

The No. 11 Virginia women’s soccer team will be a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament and host Fairleigh Dickinson in a first-round matchup on Saturday. Kick is set for 6 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium.

For the second straight game, Alexa Spaanstra hit the game-winning goal as No. 8 Virginia went on the road and closed the regular-season with a 1-0 victory at Miami on Thursday.

Following a late game-winning goal against No. 25 Wake Forest on Saturday that put Virginia on top of the ACC standings, the conference announced Tuesday that UVA’s Leo Afonso has been named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week.

For the tenth time this season, Virginia held an opponent off the scoreboard, as the No. 8 Cavaliers used a second-half goal to take a 1-0 victory over Wake Forest on Thursday night at Klöckner Stadium.

The No. 24 Virginia men’s soccer team hosted Hofstra on Tuesday night at Klöckner Stadium, as the Cavaliers came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against the Pride to close out their non-conference slate for the season.

Haley Hopkins, a forward on the Virginia women’s soccer team, was named the ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office on Tuesday with the release of its weekly awards.
